NEW YORK CITY BALLET’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT SPAC!
July 9 @ 7:30 pm - July 13 @ 7:30 pm
New York City Ballet continues its 75th Anniversary celebration at its summer home at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY, from July 9-13.
The season opens with “NYCB On and Off Stage,” hosted by principal dancers Unity Phelan and Adrian Danchig-Waring for a “behind the curtain” experience featuring excerpts from the week’s ballets and culminating with fireworks and a celebratory after party.
Highlighting the residency is George Balanchine’s three-act work Jewels featuring Fauré’s elegant Emeralds, Stravinsky’s jazz-inflected Rubies, and Tschaikovsky’s symphonic Diamonds.
Also featured are two evenings dedicated to contemporary choreography including the SPAC debut of Underneath, There Is Light by Amy Hall Garner; Gustave le Gray No. 1, choreographed by Pam Tanowitz and set to the music of Caroline Shaw; Ulysses Dove’s dynamically charged, abstract work Red Angels; and Justin Peck’s sneaker ballet The Times Are Racing.
Rounding out the season will be two performances of some of Balanchine’s most beloved works, including the classic story ballet Swan Lake; the exuberantly patriotic Stars and Stripes; the SPAC-commissioned work The Steadfast Tin Soldier; and scenes from Coppélia.
It’s a week-long residency not to be missed at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, July 9-13. Buy tickets now at SPAC.org
