Named one of Pointe Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2025, Pointeworks returns to San Diego with COMPOSITIONS: An Evening of Katie Jenkins—a one-night-only convergence of world-class ballet and live music at the historic Balboa Theatre. Curated by Founder and Artistic Director Sophie Williams, COMPOSITIONS celebrates Resident Composer Katie Jenkins through three original ballet commissions performed by an international cast of acclaimed dancers and musicians. The program features Laine Habony’s Chasing Shadows, an intimate work for three dancers and solo piano, and Jacquelyn Long’s Moving Forces, a sweeping ensemble work for six dancers, piano, and violin. The evening culminates in the world premiere of Where No Storms Come by acclaimed choreographer Hélène Simoneau, set to Jenkins’ newly commissioned score for live string quartet. Virtuosic, intimate, and exhilarating, COMPOSITIONS offers the rare experience of an entire evening of ballet devoted to the music of a female composer, performed live. Featuring artists from Atlanta Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, Los Angeles Ballet, The Metropolitan Opera, and San Diego Symphony, Pointeworks brings exceptional artists together during ballet’s traditional layoff period—creating paid opportunities for collaboration, artistic exchange, and ambitious new work.
