Choreography in Dance Education: A Process to Teach Students How to Create Dances – Online Course

January 30, 2023 - March 12, 2023

Many dancers and dance teachers have not formally studied the art of choreography! “Choreography in Dance Education: A Process to Teach Students How to Create Dances” is our popular mini course that offers dance teachers experience with a system that can be used to teach basic elements and principles of choreography. This short 6-week course explores how to encourage self-expression in your students through dance making. How does the studio teacher, or performing arts center instructor, teach the choreographic process to young performers? How does the education director of a dance company structure dance-making activities within school residencies? How does one teach pre- and in-service teachers, or instructors in community recreational programs, how to teach this process to students with little or no dance experience? Perhaps you are experienced in making dances but now want support learning how to teach others some of the skills you already naturally possess! In this mini course, you will walk through, or model, a process that you can use to teach your own students how to create their own choreography. Tuition: $295 NDEO member / $370 non-member.
